In the series The Unnamable Is the Eternally Real, I use photographs of Buddha heads from the Royal Ontario Museum’s collection of religious artifacts. These heads were broken or sawed off from their bodies by thieves and vandals. Some of the artifacts were originally installed in, or carved directly into, rock walls at various religious sites, including the Buddhist cave temples of T’ien Lung Shan in Shansi Province, China.
